Vallée - Veterinary Vaccine Pipeline, Mapped Then Built

Hired to build software, I spent the first two weeks writing none. That was not caution.

Vallée develops veterinary vaccines, regulated end to end. Every configurable enterprise platform had been tried against its pipeline, and none fit. Every team could describe its own section of the line exactly, but nobody held the whole line, and the handoffs between sections were where the waits and the workarounds lived. A platform pointed at any one team’s account would rebuild that blind spot in software.

So I asked instead. Everyone the pipeline touched, from lab technician to executive, walked me through what they received, what they did, what they passed on, and what they worked around. The useful answers were the ones nobody thought worth saying: steps they had stopped noticing, waits they planned around, information they rebuilt by hand because it arrived in a shape they could not use.

What I had at the end was the process as run, not the document that described it. The interviews were not preparation for the design. They were the design.

The regulation set the order

The regulation constrained the process, the process was already running in the building, and the software got the last vote of the three. The two weeks that looked like the least productive stretch of the project are the reason the rest of it was used: the process people already ran, written down for the first time and adopted across the pipeline.
